<title>Effacement complet d'un disque amovible</title>

  <p>If you have a removable disk, like a USB memory stick or an external hard
 disk, you may sometimes wish to completely remove all of its files and
 folders. You can do this by <em>formatting</em> the disk — this deletes all
 of the files on the disk and leaves it empty.</p>

    <p>Ouvrez <app>Disques</app> à partir de la vue d'ensemble des <gui>Activités</gui>.</p>

    <p>Sélectionnez le disque que vous voulez effacer dans la liste des périphériques de stockage à gauche.</p>

      <p>Assurez-vous que vous avez sélectionné le bon disque ! Si vous en choisissez un autre, c'est lui qui sera définitivement effacé !</p>

    <p>In the toolbar underneath the <gui>Volumes</gui> section, click the
    menu button. Then click <gui>Format Partition…</gui>.</p>

    <p>Dans la fenêtre qui s'affiche, choisissez un <gui>type</gui> de système de fichiers pour le disque.</p>
   <p>If you use the disk on Windows and Mac OS computers in addition to Linux
   computers, choose <gui>FAT</gui>. If you only use it on Windows, <gui>NTFS</gui>
   may be a better option. A brief description of the file system type
   will be presented as a label.</p>

    <p>Give the disk a name and click <gui>Next</gui> to continue and show a
    confirmation window. Check the details carefully, and click
    <gui>Format</gui> to wipe the disk.</p>

    <p>Une fois le formatage terminé, cliquez sur l'icône d'éjection pour démonter en toute sécurité le disque. Il est maintenant vierge et prêt à être utilisé à nouveau.</p>

 <title>Le formatage d'un disque n'est pas un moyen sûr de supprimer des données</title>
  <p>Un disque formaté semble complètement vide de tout fichier, mais il est possible, avec un logiciel de récupération spécialisé, d'en récupérer les fichiers. Si vous avez besoin de supprimer des fichiers en toute sécurité, servez-vous d'un utilitaire en ligne de commande comme <app>shred</app>.</p>
